Canton,
January 19th, 1928.
I have the honour to forward herewith a copy of a letter which I have received from the Canton Government, complaining of the smuggling activities of the steam vessels "Sunning" and "Ving Hung".
In view of the fact that neither of these vessels has made any attempt to comply with the Centon Consular District General Regulations, I have informed the Chinese Maritime Customs that they are not entitled to British protection or to trade in Chinese inland waters under the British flag, and I have requested that all trading facilities may be withdrawn from them.
As
I am unaware of the names and addresses of the owners of these vessels, I am unable to communicate with them direct, and I shall be grateful if Your Excellency will cause the above information to be conveyed to them.
I have, etc.,

Acting Consul-General.

The Governor,
